James Casebolt, associate professor of psychology, Eastern James Casebolt has been selected to receive a Distinguished Service award from a division of the American Psychological Association, the primary organization for academic, research, and practice psychologists in the country. The Distinguished Service award "is offered to individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to [the] Division [of Psychology of Religion] through service and leadership." Casebolt will receive this award from the division, for which he created the first website in 2002. He continues to maintain the site. He also manages four different email listservs for the division and created a social networking site specifically for graduate students who are interested in psychology of religion. The Division of Psychology of Religion "seeks a broad dialogue on religion with all the areas of the social sciences," according to its website. "This area is one of the oldest in psychology; research on religious development and experience was conducted over a century ago… [The division] is working to re-establish the scientific psychology of religion to the respected status it once held so firmly in [the] discipline." "This award is a good illustration of how regional campus faculty are involved in our disciplines," said Casebolt. "We're active in national and international organizations, review for and publish in well-respected journals, do research and participate in conferences all over the globe, and through those things provide opportunities that can help to advance the educations and careers of our students." Casebolt has taught at Ohio University Eastern Campus since 1996. He teaches a range of courses from the psychology and world religions curricula. He and his wife, Beth, live in St. Clairsville. Their two children are graduates of St. Clairsville High School and are both currently Ohio University students.
