Ohio University Zanesville announces math contest results
In support of Mathematics Awareness Month during April, Ohio University Zanesville invited area high schools to participate in A Math Morning in the Life of High School Students.
Maysville, Philo, Rosecrans, Tri-Valley, West Muskingum, and Zanesville high schools participated in each of the two contests, an Algebra Quiz Contest and a Calculus Quiz Contest.
While on campus, the students had the opportunity to meet with the world renowned math faculty at Ohio University-Zanesville. Dr. Pramod Kanwar, the coordinator of the event, is the first and only mathematics faculty in the Ohio University system who has the distinguished honor of being named a Presidential Teacher. In addition to the mathematics contest that he initiated, Kanwar spearheads a dual-enrollment mathematics program with Maysville, Philo, and Zanesville high schools.
Leah Buck and Justin Thrush of Philo High School won the Algebra Quiz contest and Jeffrey Jay Huggins and Derrick Runkle from Maysville High School won the Calculus Quiz contest.
All students who competed received a certificate of participation and the winning team in each category received a prize of $100.
