"Writing the Holocaust in the 21st Century"
Zanesville event pays tribute to writers, features music

By Chris Shaw
Apr 12, 2010

Rabbi Danielle Leshaw, Director, Hillel at Ohio University along with Kevin Haworth, author of the novel, The Discontinuity of Small Things will present a moving memorial program honoring the Holocaust victims and the influence of that devastating time on the 21st Century.

The program entitled" Writing the Holocaust in the 21st Century" will focus on writers who perished as a result of their experience during the Holocaust. In addition to the tributes there will be special musical performances by Hillel at Ohio University Jewish Students. Join us in remembering this historical time.

Featured musicians are Samara Katz and Evan Wilkof. Katz is a senior studying Visual Communications at Ohio University.  A native of Cleveland, she's been songleading in the Jewish community for almost 8 years.  Samara is currently Hillel at Ohio University's lead musician, inspiring and encouraging Jewish students on campus to raise their voices in song and prayer.

Wilkof is a junior from Canton, Ohio. He is studying business economics, and upon graduation, would like to enter the financial planning sector.  In his spare time, Evan stays active by running and flying single-engine airplanes.

"Writing the Holocaust in the 21st Century" is an Ohio University Zanesville's Third Thursday event. The presentation, which is scheduled for Thursday, April 15 at 7 p.m. in the Elson Hall Auditorium is free and open to the public. Haworth will have his novel available for sale for $15.
