Chaplin films come to Twin City Opera House in McConnelsville Completed in 1921 after years of tweaking, Charlie Chaplin's "The Kid" is a feature-length silent film that combines tragedy and comedy in a sophisticated way. Chaplin utilized the untutored innocence of his four-year-old co-star, Jackie Coogan (later cast as Uncle Fester in "The Adams Family" TV series) to great effect, thereby creating one of the greatest comico-tragic teams in film history. "The Kid" will be shown in 35mm format Friday night, October 29, at the Twin City Opera House at 15 West Main Street in McConnelsville, Ohio, in a program of films beginning at 6:30PM. It will be preceded by Chaplin's 1922 short film investigation of the ironies of upper class life, "The Idle Class." Both films feature Chaplin-composed soundtracks. They are 2010 Janus Film restorations sure to provide an unmatchable film experience. The Twin City Opera House film program is one of the community engagement components of the "Charlie in the Heartland" conference being held October 28-30, 2010, at Ohio University’s Zanesville campus. Residents are also invited to participate in a Charlie Chaplin Lookalike Contest scheduled for Wednesday, October 27, at 5:30 p.m. in at OU Zanesville’s Elson Hall Auditorium.
