Zanesville Campus Celebrates Black History Month
"Understanding Black History through Black Music"
By Chris Shaw
Feb 8, 2010
Ohio University-Zanesville's Third Thursday event series will be changed to the third Wednesday for February in order to celebrate Black History month with dynamic programming, . Dr. Ted McDaniel, professor of African American Music at Ohio State will present "Understanding Black History through Black Music" on Wednesday, February 17, at 7 p.m. in the Elson Hall Auditorium.
McDaniel, a specialist in African American music, jazz history and jazz performance is in high demand, thus the Cultural Committee, sponsors for the event, requested the date change.
Having lectured throughout the United States, in Africa, Europe and China, McDaniel is renowned for his analysis of the music, as a music arranger and composer. Under his leadership, the OSU Jazz Ensemble has toured internationally with three European tours.
McDaniel is affiliated with the National Black Music Caucus (now the National Association for the Study and Performance of African-American Music) and holds membership in the Center for Black Music Research, National Association of Negro Musicians, National Association for Music Education, National Council for Black Studies, Association for the Study of AfroAmerican Life and History, and the International Association for Jazz Education.
The award-winning McDaniel will visit Ohio University-Zanesville as part of the Third Thursday event series, which promotes cultural, diversity and educational programming. The serie is sponsored by the OU Zanesville Cultural Committee.
