Lancaster Campus Recognizes Donors, From a Campus/community partnership that began over 50 years ago to the state-of-the-art library in which they stood, local individuals, corporations and organizations created Ohio University’s Lancaster Campus. “This is your time,” said Campus Dean John Furlow. He noted that from less than 300 students in 1956, OUL grew to the largest enrolled regional campus of the University in 1970. “At 2,200 students, we’re number one again.” Furlow told the nearly 100 contributors, faculty and staff assembled in the Hannah V. McCauley Library that the building and growth could not have happened without them. “And the future depends on Campus/community partnerships.” Before unveiling what he described as one of the most beautiful donor walls, Howard Lipman, Vice President for University Advancement and President and CEO of the University Foundation, said, “Each of you chose to make a difference in the lives of students. Your philanthropy reaches far and wide and in ways you can’t even imagine.” Looking around the Hannah V. McCauley Library, Lipman observed that libraries have become gathering places for students. “A gift not only meets a need and builds a relationship, it can spawn unintended benefits,” Lipman said. Library staff developed a blog to chronicle demolition and construction, and sorted deselected books into 77 crates for shipment to underserved students in Latin America. The Wall of Distinction denotes gift levels ranging from the Cougar Society (named for the Campus athletic teams) at $1-4,999 to the President’s Cabinet at $500,001 and up. The plaque honoring contributors adorns the lower level entrance of the Hannah V. McCauley Library at the Lancaster Campus.
