"Celebrate Women Empowering Women for Change" In recognition of Women’s History Month, students, faculty, and staff at Ohio University Lancaster Campus have organized “Celebrate Women: Empowering Women for Change,” a day-long conference for women of all ages. The conference will be held on Friday, March 5, 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., in the Campus’s Brasee Hall, 1570 Granville Pike (Rt. 37N), Lancaster. According to conference chair Pamela Kaylor, Ph.D., who teaches communications and women’s studies, students in her classes planned the initial conference several years ago. It was so successful that the conference continues, rotating between the Lancaster Campus and the Pickerington Center. The focus, however, does not change. “We concentrate on issues that are important to women, and plan sessions around our theme, which this year is Empowering Women for Change” said Kaylor. Sessions have been planned on many diverse topics from the arts to the workplace centering on the issues women deal with on a daily basis as well as women’s health concerns. Conference attendees will select from among four sessions each at 9 a.m., 10:15 a.m., 12:45 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. A health assessment will be available during each of the time periods. Teri Combs, Ph. D., Organizational Learning and Development Consultant, Ohio University, will present “Communicating for Change: Are You Asking the Right Questions?” at the 11:30 luncheon. She will offer “Dealing with Difficult Behavior” as a two-hour presentation during the afternoon sessions. Celebrate Women conference attendees also have the option of earning CEUs via the Ohio Counseling, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board. The registration fee for the conference is $20 ($15 for students), and includes lunch. For a complete list of sessions and presenters, visit www.lancaster.ohiou.edu for the Celebrate Women conference brochure and to download a registration form.
