Lancaster Campus to host 2nd Community Disposal Day and Drug Drop Off Before the initial Community Disposal Day and Drug Drop Off concluded in April, organizers were celebrating the success of the event and planning the next one. The second Community Disposal Day and Drug Drop Off will be held in the north parking lot at Ohio University Lancaster Campus, 1570 Granville Pike, on Saturday, October 30, 9 a.m. until 12 noon. Officers from the Lancaster Police Department will accept outdated and unused prescribed medications, which will be logged into the department’s property room and then destroyed. Types of medication accepted include prescription pills, capsules, liquids, creams, gels, ointments, patches, suppositories, powders, syringes and IVs. Please do not bring aerosols or inhalers, and black out the name on the prescription label. The officers also will accept medication of unknown origin. “This is an opportunity to get potentially dangerous drugs out of your home and to safely dispose of them. Please help us keep these drugs from falling into the wrong hands through theft or burglary,” said Chief of Police David Bailey. Community Disposal Day and Drug Drop Off brings together many agencies and organizations concerned about the health and safety of Fairfield County residents, according to Lancaster Campus spokesman and event organizer Jennifer LaRue. “During our April collection 163 vehicles passed through the various stations. Fairfield Medical Center and the Ohio Hospital Association partnered to distribute special bags in which residents may collect their medications to be recycled. Toxco Inc. will collect lawn and garden and auto, rechargeable and household batteries, including flashlight, hearing aid, watch and other batteries for recycling. Interim Healthcare will store and find new homes for durable medical equipment, including walkers, ramps, bath safety aids, wheelchairs and hospital beds. Goodwill Industries will recycle computer equipment, including CRT monitors, and cell phones. The Fairfield County Prosecutor’s Office, Fairfield Federal Savings and Loan, Fairfield Medical Center, Goodwill Industries, Interim Healthcare, The Lancaster Eagle-Gazette, Lancaster-Fairfield Community Action and Recycling, Lancaster Police Department, “Prevention Works” for a Drug-free Fairfield County, Toxco Inc., and WLOH have partnered with Ohio University Lancaster Campus for the event. Vehicles should enter the Lancaster Campus via College Avenue, where police auxiliary and student volunteers will direct drivers to the various drop off stations and unload the items to be collected or recycled. Documents will be shredded at the final station.
