Ohio University’s Alumni Association Board of Directors Meet at Lancaster For OHIO alumni association directors who currently reside outside the state, the group's regular meeting during the last week of February on the Lancaster Campus evoked memories of winter quarter in Athens. A generous amount of snow already covered the ground and con In addition to their meeting, directors joined Lancaster Campus faculty, staff and community residents to celebrate the grand re-opening of the newly renovated Hannah V. McCauley Library. The award-winning Lancaster High School Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of OHIO alumnus Bruce Gerken, performed in Wagner Theatre, aptly concluding with “Wizards in Winter” by the Transiberian Orchestra. During the group's visit to campus, Associate Professor of Health Technology Debra Smith wowed the directors and alumni office staff with her presentation demonstrating how she uses technology in teaching courses in a blended format. She included video interviews with students regarding their adaptation to the technology. Jennifer LaRue, public information and marketing officer, shared information on community partnerships, including one with Developmental Disabilities/ Blue Shoe Arts, whose work is exhibited in the Wilkes Gallery where the directors met. The Board of Directors ended their visit with a general meeting and report by OHIO President Roderick McDavis. Of OHIO’s 31,000 students, McDavis noted that 10,000 of them attend a regional campus or center. He hopes to expand programs to regional campuses, underscoring the market for master’s degree programs at the Lancaster Campus. “Since our founding in 1804 we’ve been an access institution,” McDavis said, also noting that regional campuses offer huge potential in diversity, with the addition of Brian Bridges, Vice Provost for Diversity, Access and Equity, and the potential to serve place-bound populations as well as students who begin their studies at a regional campus and relocate to Athens. With a 12 percent reduction in state funding over the last ten years, McDavis stated that regional campuses play a big role in increased annual giving and external revenue.PHOTO: Celebrating the Grand Re-opening of the Hannah V.
