Eastern Campus Art Gallery Features Student Exhibit

By Crystal Lorimor
Apr 7, 2010

Three up and coming artists – currently students at Ohio University Eastern Campus and Belmont Technical College–will be featured in the spring exhibit, “Around theArt by Lacie Lee Garafalo Neighborhood.”  Kaytlyn Snyder, Lacie Lee Garafalo and Robert Reams will display their work in the Ohio University Eastern Campus art gallery Monday, April 19 – Thursday, May 13.

The art gallery is open noon – 6pm, Monday –Thursday.  The gallery is located on the second floor of Shannon Hall.

Snyder is a sophomore at Ohio University Eastern Campus hoping to major in English then to attend art school and become a children’s book illustrator.  She works in the campus art gallery and admits her path to charcoal was a bit of a surprise.

“Throughout my childhood, I found myself constantly surrounded by friends who all had drawing skills that far surpassed my own,” Snyder said.  “I decided to improve so as to be up to part with my friends.”  In August 2008, Snyder was creating some fan art and discovered she could use charcoal with what she describes as “some degree of skill.”

Garafalo, also a student at Ohio University Eastern Campus, is working towards her goal of being an elementary school art teacher.  She, herself, found solace in art classes through grade school and high school.  Later, after the birth of her daughter, her creative side re-emerged through paintings, song writings, and most recently, ceramics.

Seams, a student at Belmont Technical College, will display painting and mixed media at the exhibit.  A man of few words, “I like to scare people” is the only description and explanation the artist will give.
