Eastern Campus Men’s Basketball Players Earn Academic
Three Ohio University Eastern Campus men’s basketball players have been named to the All Academic Team and three have been named All-Conference for the Ohio Regional Campus Conference (ORCC). Carter Baldwin, a freshman from Barnesville, Dave Barcroft, a senior from Cadiz, and Cristopher Schmitt, a senior from Belmont, were named to the All-Academic Team. This honor requires players to earn a minimum grade point average of 3.0 with a minimum of 12 credit hours earned. In addition to these honors, Jason Shaw, Stephen Luckhardt and Baldwin were named All Conference. Shaw, a sophomore guard from St. Clairsville, was named to the first team. He averaged 18.4 point and 8.1 rebounds per game. He also led the team with an 80 percent mark from the foul line (103-129). “Jason is a guy who just loves to play the game and can score like no other in our league,” said Donnie Madzia, head coach. Luckhardt, a senior point guard from St. Clairsville, was named to the second team All-Conference. He averaged 16.2 point, 5.3 rebounds, and 7.4 assists per game. “Steve was the engine that made us go,” said Madzia. “He pushed the ball as well as anybody that I have ever coached.” In addition to his academic honor, Baldwin was listed as honorable mention on the All-Conference teams. “Carter used his athleticism to score inside and out for us,” said Madzia. “By the end of the season, Carter was someone to be reckoned with.” The men’s squad finished the season with an 18-8 record, including 13-3 league play. They advanced to the ORCC State Tournament Final Four for the third straight season where they lost this year to eventual state champion Miami Middletown
