Chillicothe's Women's Tennis Nets Championship

By Jack Jeffery
May 7, 2010

In just its second season since being rejuvenated as a competitive sport, the Chillicothe women's tennis team won the Ohio Regional Campus Conference championship, which was held in Cincinnati on Saturday, May 1.

OU-C won the women's tournament with 6 points, followed by Miami University-Hamilton, OU-Lancaster and Miami-Middletown. The women's team compiled a 5-1 record this year.

Team members included No. 1 singles player Jessica McComis, No. 1 doubles teammates Caitlin Keaton & Tiffany Bowlby, and No. 2 doubles team Ashley Montgomery & Rachel Metcalf.

The men's team was represented by the first doubles combo of Jordon Dewitt and Jesse Bissell.  This is only the second season of competition since the campus tennis program was re-started last year.

"I was very proud of the ladies and how well they played in the tournament, especially Caitlin Keaton and Tiffany Bowlby," said OU-C tennis coach Ellen Clark. "It came down to their match with MUH, which was decided in a tie-breaker. They played very well in the tie-breaker to give OU-C a win."

"This is when mental toughness and determination becomes a factor in determining the outcome," Clark added. "I'm also proud of how well all of the team members demonstrated excellent sportsmanship throughout the season. They represent OU-C well. Many of these athletes have busy lives and are juggling many schedules. I'm glad that OU-C gives them an opportunity to participate in collegiate sports. It's a nice outlet for them as well as a way to make new friendships and be involved with other students."

"We have two graduating seniors on the women's team, Jessica McComis and Caitlin Keaton. Both of them have been leaders on the women's team with winning records for the two years they played for OU-C. They were friends and team mates at Unioto High School," Clark stated."It's nice to see these friendships continue on into college."
