Applications Being Accepted for Program to Help
Area Math Teachers Incorporate Technology in Classroom

By Jack Jeffery
Apr 26, 2010

Applications are being accepted through May 31 for the QUANT (Quantifying Uncertainty and Analyzing Numerical Trends) program, which is designed for math teachers of grades 8 through 12. The year-long program is based at Ohio University-Chillicothe and includes a weeklong workshop from June 14-18 and a 2-day workshop on Aug. 5-6 in addition to online instruction.

The application is now available online at http://www.cehs.ohio.edu/college-offices/dean-office/morton/QUANT.htm.

Participants in the QUANT program will receive $500 worth of materials, access to additional resources, plus food and stipends. Optional graduate credit will be available at a reduced tuition rate for participants.

The goal of the program is to develop content knowledge, pedagogical expertise and skill in using technology for data analysis, probability and statistics. Participants will explore these concepts in-depth using TI-nspire handheld computers and data-collection devices as tools for teaching and learning. The QUANT summer program will be followed by ongoing online support and daylong Friday workshops on Oct. 1, 2010, and March 4, 2011.

The QUANT program strives to help mathematics teachers create a class for students that is distinguished from the pre-calculus or calculus classes that many seniors are now encouraged to take by incorporating data and technology into the classroom in meaningful ways, which benefits students pursing any field.
