Chillicothe Green Day activities emphasize practical steps
toward environmental responsibility
Several OU-C students recently sponsored a "Green Day" to emphasize practical steps that can be taken to support environmental responsibility.
"We would like to thank everyone who participated in the Green Day project. We were able to educate many of our fellow students on the importance of doing our part to improve the state of our environment," OU-C student Rhonda Cook said. "We would like to especially thank Walmart, Community Market and Kroger for donating reusable shopping bags."
Nearly 50 students took an online survey to assess their environmental footprint score, with Chillicothe Campus students ranking lower than most area residents, according to Cook.
Despite a driving rain much of the day, Walmart Tire and Lube Express employees Duane Powell and Matt Knight checked the tire inflation of more than 40 students' vehicles in the parking lot.
"Underinflated tires can cause a car to use an extra 144 gallons of gas in a year and emit one and a half times more carbon dioxide than cars with properly inflated tires," Cook said.
The group also collected 108 cans and 107 bottles in recycling bins that were set out between Bennett Hall and Stevenson Center.
