Purpose
Given a rich history of regional campus faculty who served their students, campuses and communities with dedication and distinction, it is appropriate to establish an Ohio University award to recognize such accomplishments. The Outstanding Professor Award forRegional Campuses will honor faculty members who have demonstrated excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. Nominated and selected by their colleagues, Regional Campus Outstanding Professors will retain that distinction for two years and receive an honorarium in each of those two years.
Nomination
Nominations for the Outstanding Professor Award for Regional Campuses will be generated at the regional campuses. Each campus may make one nomination per year. These nominations and the supporting documentation will be submitted at the end of Winter Quarter to the Award Selection Committee. While the nominee is expected to provide pertinent materials, the organization and presentation of those materials is the responsibility of the campus nominating committee.
The nominating committee on each campus will be composed of two faculty members designated by the faculty and one member appointed by the Campus Dean.
Selection
The Award Selection Committee will be composed of one faculty member from each of the five campus nominating committees. Each year all five campuses will be represented even if they have not submitted a nomination. The Selection Committee will convene as necessary to consider the nominations. The Committee may recommend at most two Outstanding Professorships in any one year. The Outstanding Professorships will be announced at the end of Spring Quarter. The award(s)will be presented at an appropriate occasion.
Criteria
Nominees must be full-time, Group I faculty members who have served at the nominating campus for a minimum of three years. Those who receive the Outstanding Professor Award, Regional Campuses, may not be eligible for nomination again for three years after selection. Nominated candidates who have not been selected, however, may be put forward as nominees in subsequent years.
Nominees should have a demonstrated outstanding record of achievement in some combination of the following: quality teaching; scholarship in the discipline, teaching, or engagement; work with students and student organizations; civic and community activities directly germane to the educational objectives of the regional campus; and leadership in professional organizations.
Awards
Those selected will carry the designation of Outstanding Professor, Regional Campuses, and receive a stipend of $3,000 for each of two consecutive years.
